5% extra marks for Grade 9-12 students in all boards, announced federal minister

SSC and HSSC students were concerned about their result in compulsory subjects. How the total marks will be adjusted? How the merits will be formed? There were a lot of questions roaming in students minds.

Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday has talked about the issue of grace marks  given to SSC and HSSC students in all education boards of Pakistan. He announced that students will get five per cent extra marks in compulsory subjects. It will be depend on the marks they get in their elective subjects. It will be in addition to proportionate marking they acquire through the results of elective subjects.

There were no exam of compulsory subjects including Islamiat, Urdu and English at SSC and HSSC level.  Students only have given the exams of elective subjects. Most education boards exam of class 10 and class 12 have been ended or about to end. The exam of class 9 and class 11 have been schduled in this month.  Federal Education Ministry decided that marks acquired by students in elective subjects would proportionately be given in compulsory subjects, along with an addition of 5pc.

Education minister told the reason behind the decision, that why students have been awarded 5% extra marks in compulsory subjects.

“It was earlier decided that marks of elective subjects would proportionately be given to students in compulsory subjects as well, but our research showed that students usually get higher marks in the compulsory subjects, so it has been decided to award 5pc extra marks to pupils on compulsory subjects,” said the minister.

Then 5% extra marks in exam  is a sigh of relief for students that are worried for their result from the exams conducted under unsuitable conditions of Corona lock down. 

He also announced that there will be no Cancellation of any exam. All exams will be conducted according to schdule. All students in all education boards from class 9-12  will get 5% extra marks in proportion to marks taken in elective subjects.

Mahmood also underlined that exams in all provinces on the above classes will be held in accordance with the schedules announced by the respective provinces, while Sindh will soon share its new exam schedule, he added.
