WHAT IS A STORY OF "SUPERSTAR"? A Pakistani film review- fusionstories

Noori (Mahira Khan) is a middle-class girl, from Bhatti gate, Lahore, who works in her grandfather Agha Jan (Nadeem Baig)’s theatre since her childhood. Agha Jan is a retired film director of 70's who runs a theatre now and adores art and craft more of a business. Since the age of 10 years, Noori has been working on many TV advertisements, but still, she is an undiscovered talent of media. Her efforts of clinch new projects through her agent Bobby (Waqar Hussain) and failures of getting fewer, is creating rage and harshness, in her personality, for the film industry. According to Noori, not the talent, but relationships and wealthy background matter more appear on a big screen. The pace of the film is dull and dawdling until the entry of a hero.

Bilal Ashraf, make his appearance with an item number “Dharak Bharrak” that features a cameo with Kubra khan. Sameer Khan (Bilal Ashraf) is a renowned name of the film industry who knows well of his stardom. He comes from a rich background. Sameer Khan and Noori met at the shooting of an advert and fell in love with others.

The promos of new Eid release Pakistani movie “Superstar” promised to show a journey and efforts, an actress has to face, to mark her position in the film industry, but in actual, superstar fails to meet the expectations of the audience till here. Here revealed a simple love story, which was filmed on film sets. To see the real behind curtain scenes of a cinema recently released Meera’s film “Baaji” can be the best destination.
The “superstar”  is overloaded with songs that interrupt the concentration and tracking of much-needed scenes. Although Mahira and Bilal put their best to amalgamate as a better romantic couple on screen. At first half, the audience finds it difficult to sit in the cinema for watching something worth of their money.
A fresh comic relief in the movie is a role of Chutki (Aleeza Shah) who played the role of the younger sister of Noori. Chutki’s die-hard attachment to film heroes and her innocent but erupt notes blew up the laughs among audience throughout the movie. She is a supportive sister and holds her character’s lighter side until the end.

A pakistani film "superstar" story

The movie is on a show when the audience hit another good performer, Shaan (Ali Kazmi), who is a director of movies and a friend of Sameer Khan. Ali Kazmi plans a film with Sameer and Noori while Sameer has a dream to make his name in Bollywood film industry. He betrays his friend and his love to gain a chance over there. This spell was much needed to showcase the Noori's character, but unfortunately left in between.
Like many other Pakistani movies, the second half of the movie is cluttered up with fizzling scenes. Pakistan and India’s conventional rivalry and Pakistani actor’s struggle at Bollywood is also a part of the movie, which is kept in secret from the audience in the promos. The film more shows of Sameer khan’s oppressed struggle at Bollywood. The pressure and offense, which Pakistani stars have to face there is portrayed very well in the superstar.
Ok… back to movie… Sameer is busy in making his name in Bollywood, meanwhile affected with betrayal, Shaan (Ali Kazmi) decided to promote Noor Khan under the brand name of “NOORI”. At this spell, the audience has to watch another item song of Mahira Khan, featuring Usman Khalid Butt, as a cameo. The music of the film is by Azaan Sami khan which makes the movie a more of a melodrama.

Noori is a superstar now and has met her dreams of glittering at big screens. Since Sameer Khan is done with Bollywood. After facing repercussion from Bollywood, Sameer Khan turns back. Here he tries to win Noori’s heart back, but after failing his attempts, he joins Noori’s Uncle Theatre. Nadeem Baig has done a great job here by keeping the pace of his dialogues and justifying his character which deliberately reminds us of the superstar of  70's.
Sameer Khan asks for the exculpation which is granted by Noori and the movie rolled down the curtains with a happy ending, leaving the audience wondered with the hare-brained script.
Mahira Khan is left with hurried cut scenes and less motivated character with having no impression at viewer’s minds outside the auditorium. Bilal Ashraf has improved from his dumb expressions in “Jannan” to “Superstar”. He looked up as a right choice from the director, with his tall and muscular body as Sameer Khan.
As far as the script is concerned “Superstar” subordinates “Cake” but in terms of comedy, the movie is much better by avoiding dirty jokes like in “Parey hut love” and “wrong number”.
Conclusion:
The superstar is a family movie, which can be a good pass time on the weekend. Though the script lacks its grip somewhere, stunning aerial shots, well-brought-up comedy, and vibrant songs will not let you leave the movie at the interval.
