COMMON EARTHQUAKES IN PAKISTAN?IS NATURE ANGRY? SINS-fusionstories

Why so many violent earthquakes hit Pakistan on and off leaving a considerable loss of life and structure? This question flickers many minds when they have to leave out of the buildings on sudden jolts of the earth to save their lives in fear that roofs will collapse on them.

WHY PAKISTAN IS PRONE TO EARTHQUAKES?

Disaster can hit anywhere in any way. It may be a test more of thinking that nature is angry upon us. Researches revealed that two-third of Pakistan lies on the go fault lines and above the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates that can cause an earthquake at any time. That is why earthquakes are common in Pakistan. Pakistan is the 5th most sensitive country that is prone to earthquakes. Almost all big cities of Pakistan come under the sensitive zone. Karachi stays above the junction of three tectonic plates and can be affected with a sudden jolt.
 Nature knows best, but upper Sindh and middle areas of Punjab province claim to be safe from the possibility of any Pakistan lies on two plates Indian plate and the Eurasian plate and Arabian plates.
TECTONIC PLATES OF PAKISTAN

ACTIVITY OF INDIAN PLATE CAUSES COMMON EARTHQUAKE IN PAKISTAN

Pakistan lies on the junction of three tectonic plates; Eurasian plate, Indian plate, and Arabian plates. Among which Eurasian and Indian plates constantly smack each other to jolt the life on the surface of Pakistan. About 50 million years ago, India was a continent, which collided with Asia and this massive collision caused the fabrication of the great Himalayas. The Indian plate is still active today and is moving at a velocity of 5cm per year towards the north and this movement causes usual major and minor earthquakes in northern areas of Pakistan which resides above or near the Himalayas such as Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, and Quetta. Some of the recent major earthquake in Pakistan is;

This tectonic activity, then, also touch Islamabad, Peshawar, Mansehra, Jhelum, Lahore and other areas of the salt range. Despite the loss of many lives when a residential building (Margalla tower) collapsed in a devastating earthquake in 2005, Islamabad lies in a less risky zone.

Another major earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck the same areas of Pakistan which continue many seconds. It was 203 km deep this time, but rewind the memories of the earthquake of 2005. This earthquake left about 400 dead and 3000 injured. A lot of destruction of buildings is also seen in the media. People rushed out of their workplaces and houses in all areas amid fear of collapsing the buildings.

24TH SEPTEMBER 2019 EARTHQUAKE IN PAKISTAN

 Himalaya seems to actively prone to earthquakes in recent years that in the same area and the same start of the autumn season, another earthquake of magnitude 5.8 hit Jhelum and Kashmir areas of Pakistan leaving about 30 dead and many injured. More people were lucky to save their lives as they ran out of roofed buildings in time which fell in minutes. People in Pakistan are now more alert of their life safety amid an earthquake jolt as they have witnessed a chain of recent destructive jolts causing loss of many lives. A tense point of this earthquake is that when a road alongside the upper Jhelum canal collapsed and sunk. Many vehicles fell into craters caused by the earthquake. Water from the canal entered the nearest towns. At the near Mangla dam, a major dam of Pakistan used to produce electricity and for irrigation purposes has to shut down for a while right after the earthquake.

CAN HUMANS PREDICT EARTHQUAKES?

Despite the many types of research and geological theories, humans are still blindfolded to predict an earthquake. No one knows when nature will turn the drawing of its landscapes. At one side earthquake causes life loss, but on the other side in a result of an earthquake, nature unveiled fresh lakes, new valleys, ways to the hidden minerals and uprising of mounted peaks. We all can wish to be in the list of nature where we only see positive of its orders.

CAN DOGS SENSE AN EARTHQUAKE?

Scientists suggest that dogs and few crawling animals can sense seismic activity in advance. They can observe grinding, pushing off the rocks with each other and micro-tremors deep down from the earth's surface. People for centuries have anecdotes when they observed strange behaviors of cats, dogs, ants and other animals before any imminent earthquake. A victim of a massive earthquake in Kashmir said that he  felt birds started to twitter loud suddenly on trees and then he observed a flying group of birds flew to one side. Asides my cattle in the farm were bawling and trying to get rid of their ropes. For seconds, a strange quietness crept in the atmosphere, followed a creak and the ear screeching loud sound and the earthquake ups and down my valley.
Anyhow, there is not any scientific proof of animal's unusual behavior before an earthquake, but still animals seem more aware than humans and try to aid them in advance in case of a tsunami or an earthquake.
