As soon as the students enter the secondary school in Pakistan, then they have to decide between two parallel exam systems i.e. Matric system or O level Cambridge exam system to complete the secondary level. If you’re looking to join the O level exam system, then we’ll tell you the updated expenditures of O level school fees, book costs and the fees of CIE exams in 2020.

O level is an abbreviation of ordinary level exam that is conducted by Cambridge international Examination worldwide. The classes for O level exam system starts from grade 9 and it is taken in two parts. It is a two year program of exam, whereas many private schools in Pakistan stretch this time to three years and the classes are named as O1, O2 and O3. The CIE exams are taken at the end of O2 and O3. In Pakistan, O level students must study 5 core subjects. It includes Math, Pakistan studies (History), Urdu, Islamyat and English. The rest three subjects are chosen by the students from a combination of subjects. The students can choose science group with Biology or Computer science or can look for Business group according to their interests.  

    

Mostly in many schools in Pakistan, students appear in Urdu, Islamyat and Pakistan studies at the end of O2 or in part 1. Students give the exam of rest of subjects at the end of O3 or in part 2. Cambridge CIE exams are taken twice in one year i.e. May/June and November. In Pakistan the most students appear in April/May exam session.

As O level classes are stretched in three years in renowned schools in Pakistan that’s why it cost high fees charges for the students.

There is variation in school fees for O level exam classes, but the exam fees per subject are same for all schools. O level per subject fees is updated and charged from the British Council that takes and manages the annual O level exam.  In year 2020, the per subject fees for O level exam is approx. Rs 15,000. If you’re appearing in part 1 or O2 exam, then fee Challan for CIE is summed up to Rs 45,000 in 2020. Here is an updated, fresh fee slip of CIE exam that is submitted by an O3 student for part 2 of Cambridge exam. The students already have passed three subjects last year.

Other than fees, the books for O level exam system are recommended by the British Council. These books have to buy once in start of the O level session that will feed the student for the next two or three years.

There are separate books of passed papers for each subject that need to buy from local markets as reference or guide books. These passed paper books charge between Rs 500 to Rs 1500 each depending on the number of papers in it.

O level exam system is an expensive system that middle class people can’t or hardly afford it for their children.

In contrast, Matric system cost very less in any private school and even it is free in Government schools along with free books. The books for Matric system are not expensive and affordable.
