RUSWAI drama last episode spell bound the viewers by it's strong message and appearance of rape victim Muktaran Mai. Mukhtaran Mai was gang raped by 4 man and she came out, fought and won the justice. Ruswai is a latest highly viewed Pakistani drama on ARY Digital that is covering the life of a rape victim and her immediate family constraints in a very significant way. The making of dramas on rape victims is not new in media industry, but RUSWAI is different of all because of its unique content. RUSWAI drama shows the helplessness, misery and suffocation of a rape victim even when she is a well educated and belongs to a high class income group. RUSWAI shows the real life challenges of a rape victim girl who is trying to continue her life in normal again.
RUSWAI: A RAPE VICTIM STORY

The dramas RUSWAI well shows the fact of Pakistan society: why the rape criminals are not identified or accused in the sub-continent. Many rape victims are forced from the family for not registering any complaint against the rappers in the fear of media trial and its effects on other members of the family. RUSWAI drama has also hit another core issue of exchange marriages and their negative impact on married life.

Sana Javed is playing the lead character of the drama as Sameera. She is a doctor by profession and has ambitions to continue her life in her own way. In the first few episodes, we see that how Mikaal Zulfiqar (hero), a pilot, fell in love with Sana and forced his family to marry her. Sana in contrast, has varied goals in life and also being against marrying the brother of her sister in law refused the proposal.  Mikaal insisted on his pure love feelings and got successful to win Sana’s heart. Later in an unfortunate incident, Sana was kidnapped by four men from a market and then found helpless near bushes next morning.  Here we observe the grey shades of her family, when her father refused to let register any complain or to take any police help in finding of her daughter. He just waits of her return and advised everyone for not disclosing the incident that according to him, it’ll brunt Sana’s younger sister repute too who is a university student. The rape victim Sana wanted a charge for criminals, but she was not allowed and she falls into trauma of being caught again anywhere as the same people are unidentified and out.

Other than, of her immediate family, her future husband abandoned her instantly after listening at the incident and got involved in another affair. From here starts a devastating and pessimistic pressure of exchange marriages in Pakistan. Sana and Mikaal were forced to knot a relation and to get married, to save the relation of their brother and sister even when both of them are not willing for this.

The drama RUSWAI continues with its heart touching story and take a twist when in striving to continue her married life, she was mentally and physically abused by her husband and in laws. She was forced to resign from the job. Her mother in law forces her to commit suicide and her parents witness all exploitation helpless. Her parents can't protect her as their son and daughter in law will not like it. In this entire scenario, Sana’s younger sister, Natalia Awais, can’t hold the pressure and mounts in depression. When the audience is expecting the Sana on suicide attempt, then we find a suicide attempt from her younger sister who was much depressed because of her elder sister’s situation, her bad study grades and helplessly on her parent’s side. RUSWAI drama also shows the role of media, social media and different NGO’s on putting pressure on rape victim’s family for giving those interviews. All the characters' performance is well liked by the audience.

RUSWAI drama can be well compared with another famous Turkish drama “FATIMA GUL-mera kusoor kiya” which was a big hit in India and Pakistan too. Fatima Gul is a village girl who is gang rapped but she felt it free to fight her case against the criminals. Fatima Gul also had to face the pressures and curbs from the other party to withdraw from the case. Her finance left her too, but as a society, no one sets her or her family accused of victim blaming. Her brother stood by her and her sister in law, cunning in character, didn’t degrade her personality after rape incident. Fatima Gul works in a restaurant while her news is viral on media and everyone shows sympathy towards her. Contrary to sub-continent tradition, the girls in Fatima Gul, refused to marry the rappers even they were affluent, on finding them guilty. Fatima Gul found the courage and praising letters from all the circles.

RUSWAI has got a high viewer ship and getting appaluded to touch and portray the real life challenges of rape victim girl and her family.

It is socio-crime drama produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Naseeb by Six sigma plus.
