The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan HEC has asked students not to take admissions in unauthorized two-year BA/BSc or MA/MSc programs anywhere in Pakistan.
As per reports, few universities have announced admissions for these in two years programs. Universities will earn money but it will not good for the students, the Commission said in a statement on Twitter.
“These discarded degrees will not enable students to apply for jobs or further education.” HEC tweeted.
Last year, the HEC repealed two-year bachelor’s degree programs at universities across the country. This holds that students will no longer be able to seek two-year BCom or BSc degrees.
The notification issued by HEC says, “The two-year bachelor's degrees shall not be recognized by the HEC for students enrolled in these programs after December 31, 2018.”
It said that the programs are going to be replaced with a single, composite BS degree. The last BA/BSc exam was taken on December 31, 2020. Admissions for the last batch of MS/MSc will be taken before the date as well.
Due to the coronavirus institutes closure, HEC has authorized some flexibilities for students:
1. Varsities have been given a “three-month grace period”. They can conduct exams by March 31, 2021. These will be considered 2020 exams.
2. The deadline for the final batch of MS/MSc has also been extended to March 31, 2021.
3. BA/BSc degree holders can apply for admission for their third year. It will be considered the 5th semester, subject to the completion of the previous semester. The course requirements will be decided by the university.
4. Students who forfeit the deadline for MS/MSc can apply for their third year in a BS program. HEC has suggested it a better option.
5. Students who are applying for the bachelors can either choose for the four-year program or the AD programs.
6. The HEC has warned that admissions in illegal and phased out programs will steer to a fine for students.
