Swiss Family Robinson- Character sketch of Pastor, Elizabeth -Diary entry

Character sketch of Pastor, Elizabeth - Swiss Family Robinson

How to write a character sketch of an English novel or story

A character sketch is a portrayal of a person that a reader has perceived after reading any English novel or story. It mostly starts with the physical appearance of the character that is described in the story. Further, it includes the character’s behavior, strength, and weaknesses according to the story. In the end, the reader has to give his one-line opinion about the character.  A character sketch is always written in the present tense.

Here we’ll describe character sketches of “Pastor” and “Elizabeth”, the lead characters from “Johann David Wyss” novel “Swiss Family Robinson”, published in 1812.  The novel is a part of many school syllabuses where students have to write the character sketches and give answers to related questions.

Swiss Family Robinson Notes

Character Sketch of Pastor

The pastor has the most important role in the Swiss Family Robinson. He is a tall man with a muscular body. He has a fair complexion. He has deep brown and grey curly hair and brown eyes.  The pastor is wearing a lime green shirt and a green-colored waistcoat with black pants. He has a clear British accent. He is a father of four sons Fritz, Earnest, Jack, and Franz.  He is the head of the family. He is a husband of a supportive woman Elizabeth. He is wise, caring, and brave.

The pastor knows to deal with the difficulties. The pastor found eight empty casks which he used to make rafts. He is a nature-enthusiast and a quick learner. He explored the whole island with his son Fritz. He used gourds to make kitchen utensils.

Pastor is fearless and bold. He never let his family give up. He does everything to make sure that his family is safe. He is very shrewd and brainy and that was the reason, why his sons learned new things every day. Pastor built the treehouse and tent house. He also constructed a family bridge and dig the beautiful cave decorated with crystals.

In my opinion, Pastor is the sharpest and responsible character in Swiss Family Robinson. He is a true role model for his family.

Character Sketch of Elizabeth

The character of Elizabeth is taken from the novel “Swiss Family Robinson” written by “Johann David Wyss”. Elizabeth is an intelligent and hardworking woman. Elizabeth is the only female character in the novel. She is a mother of four sons Fritz, Earnest, Jack, and Franz. She is in her way as resourceful for the family as her husband. She has golden hair which she ties neatly. She has deep brown eyes. Elizabeth wears a knee-length frock. She is polite as she never scolds her sons. She is a hardworking lady who loves to serve the family without any reward. She does all house chores. She does not ask anyone to help her that why she fell from the stairs due to weakness. She is the lady who suggests her husband make a treehouse, so the family can sleep without worrying about the Jackal and other dangerous animals.

Elizabeth- Swiss Family Robinson

She helped the family in making a bridge and a ladder together. She knows to be thankful in any situation. She doesn’t show any grievances about the situation but helps the family at her best. She suggests the family use the cave as their house. For Elizabeth, the cave is the most beautiful home.    She never let her family give up. She does everything to make sure that her family is safe. He is very supportive and accommodating. She is like a backbone for her family and that was the reason, why her husband and sons learned new things every day.

In my opinion, the character of Elizabeth is a most powerful and insightful character that influences the whole story. I like the character of Elizabeth.

Diary Entry

Imagine you’re Elizabeth from Swiss Family Robinson. Write a diary entry describing what you saw when you entered the cave and how you felt?

19th January 2021

Dear Diary,

My husband and sons fund a new house. it was a big cave. My sons were very excited to explore their house. We reached there in no time. Outside the cave, I admired the view, but the real surprise was inside.   Crystals were glittering all around me. the stalactites on the roof looked like small statues. In the middle of the large room was a big stone-like table, large enough for the entire family to sit at and eat together. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “Oh, my!” I exclaimed with joy, hearing my voice echo back to me. “My wishes have come true,” I said with tears in my eyes. “I never imagined a home as beautiful as this.”. I took a look at my family and felt very happy. We are the richest people in the world. This is what I believe now.

Elizabeth,
