4 low cost ways to bind/laminate textbooks at home- Lemination made easy

To get an extra Binding or Lemination the textbooks of kids is an extra burden on parents each year at the start of academic session. It costs Rs 40 to Rs 80 to bind a single textbook depending upon the thickness of book. This binding increases the total cost of books which parents already buy on high charges. Many parents avoid spending extra pennies on lamination or binding the textbooks, then they have to meet the frequent noticed from school to get their kid book properly laminated or the books are distorted before the session is ended. It causes an extra frustration towards the children.

The question is here that why binding or lamination a textbook necessary. First we will talk about the syllabus books that are published for public schools, where the binding is of very low quality. A textbook is easily damaged within days of use and tear into pieces.

Textbooks need a proper and solid extra binding so that children can use these books without damage throughout academic session.  Books are tear into pieces, their cover is distorted, some pages may miss if they don't get an extra binding. TextBooks are ruined while taking them out or putting them in the school bags.

An extra binding on textbook increase the lifespan of book. The book can be reused by any other sibling or student again. Mostly parents give textbooks to binders as soon as they get it from the bookshops. There are parents who take it as an additional burden on pockets to bind textbooks and don't go for it.

Here we'll tell you low cost method of binding textbooks at home or from the market. We'll also tell you the secret of book binding in the market. These all methods requires careful attention and care. Children should not try these without parental guide.


1.  Bind the book using thread

This method is cheapest and easy to get an extra binding at homes or from the market. To bind textbook at home from this method, you need a nail, hammer, big thick needle and white thick thread also called dori, tape etc

Mark two points on the one edge of book.
Put the nail on the points and thumb it with hammer. Here you'll get two holes. Now use thread to sew the textbook properly. To hide the thread and to give a neat look, use colorful tape on it. In this way your book is ready to use for whole academic year. Rest you can make it more safe by covering it with plastic sheet.

Tip: You can also ask any shoemaker near your home to pierce holes in the books or even get it stitched. Shoemaker and book binding, it may seem weird but one of my colleague has been using this method, whose kids are studying in top notch school of city. It will bear you very less charges, also the books will be saved for long.


2. Using ready made plastic covers

The textbooks used in private schools sometimes have reasonable strong binding. Also the children in middle schools are able to handle the books carefully. Then you simple can cover the textbooks with ready made plastic covers that are available in the market for covering copies or notebooks. This method is cheapest and easy to conserve a textbook from damage. It will keep the cover page of book safe and book will remain like new. A single plastic cover price is Rs 3 - Rs 7 that is very reasonable.

Only you have to buy the plastic covers of different sizes from bookshop and get cover/leminate books in seconds. This year I bind or cover my daughter's oxford history and geography books, her syllabus novel by this method. I used regular stapler to stable the plastic cover.


3. Professional binding using heavy duty stapler

While paying a handsome amount to text book binderof my children, I  asked him that how he had bind the books then he answered, it's a magic.'

I queried and now I m going to reveal that simple magic. The book borders in the market use professional or heavy-duty stapler machines to bind the books.


You can buy a heavy-duty stapler machine from any store or online, that costs between Rs 2500 to Rs 4000. It will be a one-time investment if you can afford it. You just staple the book, hide the stapler pins with colorful tape. Also to give it a professional market like the binding look, you can add lemination sheets, plastic on the cover and the back.

Tip: Staple the textbook and cover it with a plastic sheet or ready-made plastic covers. A duct tape is a good option to be used while binding or elimination the textbooks.

4. Binding plus lamination 

This is professional way to protect the textbooks. Bind the book using a thread or stapler. Wrap a lamination sheet on front and back. Now stable lamination sheet by putting duct tape on corners and on folding side of the book.


Using the above methods now parents can bind or laminate their children textbooks at home at a low cost.
