WHY CHILDREN DON’T TAKE INTEREST IN STUDYING URDU

LOWER GRADES IN URDU IN EXAMS

Children seem to be least interested in learning Urdu as subject in schools now days. Even a bright child with lower grades in Urdu in comparison of other subjects fret many parents. Teachers as well as parents face real challenge in preparing the kids for Urdu tests and exams at school.

children feel comfortable to study english than of their own first language
lower urdu grades is real challenge for teachers and parents

CHILDREN COME UP WITH FUSS AS SOON AS URDU NOTEBOOKS GETS OPEN

Even it is observed as soon as the Urdu book or notebook is open to study then the children start to cry,  become infuriate, get tense and suffer sleepy.    The hitch of disinterest in studying Urdu becomes more prominent as kid pass to higher classes. Schools had to offer remedial classes and the number of students in Urdu remedial classes observed elevated than of any other subject at secondary level.

PARENT’S NOTE

It is swallowed with pride if any kid excels in English and in other subjects but at sides same desire craves for Urdu grades. Every parent wishes to see glimpse their children at all corners of education.

URDU IS WIDELY SPOKEN AND UNDERSTOOD AT PAKISTAN BUT…

Despite the fact that Urdu is our national language and is widely spoken and understood all over country, even then kids feel obscurity in reading of simple Urdu textbooks or story books. If some of them get ready to read lesson from book then they resist writing it and present lame excuses to get rid of this subject. The problem persist almost every part of country so the real challenge is how to develop an interest in studying Urdu. The problem grows to be worst at higher classes if serious attention is not paid by parents and teachers at early stage.

ALL SUBJECTS FROM SCIENCE TO HUMANITIES ARE OFFERED IN ENGLISH

Students get familiar to English alphabets, words and sentence structure at early age as almost all subjects are offered in English obviously except Urdu. Medium of instruction strictly followed in English too that’s why our students find it difficult to excel in Urdu without putting extraordinary effort.
‘URDU SHOULD ALSO BE IN ENGLISH’
this phrase is commonly heard while Urdu lessons in schools.

URDU SCRIPT IS LITTLE TRICKIER THAN ENGLISH

Honestly speaking Urdu script is little trickier than English. To cut short the Urdu alphabets and then to join them with other letters to produce a complete word before constructing a sentence is not an easy task for young kids. It really seeks time from parents and teachers to sit with their children and help them to develop a complete Urdu word.  But consider it at serious note that a little extra time at early stage will far your child from low grades in Urdu at higher classes.

FOCUS MORE ON ENGLISH THAN OF MOTHER TONGUE, DILEMMA OF THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES

Don’t get embarrassed on disclosure of this open secret that from welcoming the newborn till his first step to school, parents religiously mould their general conversation in English. They intentionally use English words and speak small English sentences to our children. Children clearly spot pride at their parent’s faces, if they articulate in through English in front of guests and at public places. Parents efforts felt earned when a child gets admitted in any school whose credibility is more of producing out fluent English spoken prêt than of any institution with remarkable result. It’s not our fault as residents of a developing country; it is our dilemma to focus more on English learning than of Urdu to provide our children a kick start for grabbing up to mark careers in future. This practice is very common in all third world developing countries from Asia to Africa but we surely can put some efforts to develop an interest in studying Urdu to our kids.

NATIONAL LANGUAGE MAKES UNIQUE IDENTITY

While flowing in the river of globalization, as  parents and teachers we should not forget to make it clear to our children that national language stands as pride, symbol of freedom and dignity and a depositor of history and culture for any startling nation. Not to grab higher grades only but to get higher spot among world, we should endeavor to make our language more valuable, interesting and affluent in comparison of any other language.
If we keep on telling our kids the real value of language in the development of nations then they will surely effectuate to their national language and will work more hard to learn more and more from this.
Focus on Urdu phonics, urdu dictation, buying Urdu story books, urdu newspaper can also help to improve Urdu grades with time.
Lower grades in Urdu is not real problem but to hold the language as identity, as pride is real milestone for us as nation.
