There should be the word of praise for the developers of the Zoom app that they neither take advantage of the situation nor their system disappointed their users noticeably, but human nature to explore better opportunities made users search for alternates. Recently an observation of switching from Zoom to Google meet is observed to take online classes or online video meetings widely. Google meet which previously named Google hangout is Google's enterprise video conferencing software and free for use for Google customers. Google meet has stood up to give a tough challenge to Zoom and thriving hard to drive more users towards it by introducing new features by 30th September 2020. Many schools are switching to Google meet because of its integration with other Google products.

- Google meet require Gmail account but Zoom doesn't
You don't need a zoom account except the host to join any zoom meeting if you're joining via an invitation link. Secondly, you even don't require installing anything if you're joining a zoom meeting through a laptop. Anyone can join the Zoom meeting just in 2-3 steps after having an invitation link. Whereas
a Gmail account is needed to join Google to meet meetings from mobile devices especially.
- Google meets allow 24 hour meeting time, but Zoom stuck on 40 minutes
Zoom app allows you to arrange group meetings of up to 40 minutes and zoom call will be cut-off after popping up a message. Zoom and Google meet both allow you to have group meeting of up to 100 people but Zoom let you see up to 49 participants on the screen while Google meets provide this feature with only 16 faces on screen. So if you want to view fewer faces and more audio then go for meet otherwise more faces on laptop screen mean, you're opting up for Zoom.

Zoom meeting can be joined through an invitation link, typing meeting ID, or simply name but you want to avoid uninvited members in your zoom meeting then don't share your meeting ID. Zoom meetings can be live stream through YouTube or Facebook. Participants can join the meeting through a zoom link and can send messages via YouTube and this is free for all customers. Settings have many choices for the zoom meeting administrator to allow live streaming to participants.
Whereas with Google meet you can not live stream through social media. Though from September 30, 2020, with advanced Google meet features, only a G suite administrator can use live streaming and allow up to 100,000 people to watch a Google meeting. You can join more than one Zoom meetings simultaneously using a Zoom desktop client. That means you can take 2 or multiple zoom classes at the same time by entering URL links. For Google meet, you can have access to one video call with one Gmail account.
- Google meet can be integrated from other google products but not ZOOM

A Google meet link nicknamed can be re-used within 90 days. So while rescheduling Google meet meeting, anyone can re-use, send, share old links for 3 months from creating a link.
A teacher can set a link for her class and can send the same link to students daily to let them join her class. My daughter's teacher is using the same meet link for her class for two months and sending us throughWhatsapp.
Whereas for Zoom meetings, the same meeting ID, or password can be saved and used for recurring meetings within 30 days. Without any invitation link, I used to attend a public Zoom meeting daily for one month, using a Meeting ID only without fussing myWhatsAppp from bombing the same invitation link daily as most teachers are doing with parents and teachers nowadays.an. Once the time is decided among participants, then they can join meeting directly in time without fussing the host to daily send them an invitation link.
- Google Meet and Zoom allow presentation
You can give presentations, add captions, virtual backgrounds, and record the meetings both on zoom and Google meet. The host has access to participants to allow them to give a presentation but I think a host should have control over the microphone of audiences. As most of the teachers use more time on requesting the students; please turn-off your microphone....please now open your microphone and this becomes more difficult with primary school kids.
- Zoom offers free screen sharing but Google Meet doesn't
With Zoom, there can be screen sharing using annotation tools. You can share audio recordings and content from the second camera. For free Zoom, this screen sharing is set only for the host by default. From Google meet, screen sharing is allowed to G-suite members.

Both Google meet and zoom have security lapse that calls and data can be hijacked or encrypted in any way as neither of them uses end-to-end encryption. Though both companies have tighter their control to maintain the security of meetings and leak of any data in recent days.
