National MDCAT ELIGIBILITY, SYLLABUS, Medical Colleges MERIT: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
National
Medical and Dental Medical College Admission Test MDCAT is an entry test that is mandatory
to take admission in any Public or Private medical college of Pakistan to grab
MBBS or BDS degrees. National MDCAT is conducted by the National University of
Health Sciences NHS every year in September comprising the uniform syllabi for
all provinces of Pakistan. All admissions in Medical colleges on quota seats
also require a passed MDCAT test.
WHY NATIONAL MDCAT TEST WAS NEEDED?
MDCAT was introduced in 1998 in Punjab province
to check the real competency of students looking forwardtakingtake medicine as a
career was soon followed by other provinces too. Earlier MDCAT was conducted by
every province separately and test results were used to get admissions in Medical
Colleges, anywhere in Pakistan. With time, it was observed that some admitting
universities consistently limited their question bank to reduce topics from the
FSc syllabus, resulting in an easier MDCAT exam for some compared to others.
The
inequality in the level of difficulty of different provincial MDCAT exams consistently
resulted in public objection, especially from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They
found the difficulty level of their MDCAT exams to be much higher than others,
resulting in their students obtaining lower marks than MDCAT candidates from
other provinces and regions. This also negatively affected the final merit of
these students due to other students giving easier MDCAT exams, thereby
acquiring higher marks. PMC introduced National MDCAT to curtail the negative merit
pressure from candidates.
A
National MDCAT exam has set a “level playing field” for every candidate from
Pakistan in terms of merit to get admission in any Medical or Dental college.
NATIONAL SYLLABUS OF MDCAT
There is not any prescribed syllabus of MDCAT other than to thoroughly study and prepare from FSc textbooks of your exam boards.
There
were rumors of an ‘abrupt’ change of MDCAT syllabus and addition of topics out
of FSc level which strongly denied by PMC. According to the Pakistan medical council, the PMC correspondent,
‘The
PMC has not changed the MDCAT syllabus ‘abruptly’ or all for that matter. There exists no such syllabus for the MDCAT at all, therefore the issue
of PMC changing the syllabus should be rendered null and avoid.
The
MDCAT examination is based on selected topics from FSc syllabi for purpose of
limiting the scope of questions to remain in the domain of checking a student’s
aptitude to peruse higher medical education. These domains include requisite
knowledge in the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English,
The Ministry of National Health services NHS stated that the purpose to introduce a
uniform syllabus for Medical and Dental College Admission Test MDCAT was to
provide a level playing field to students across the country.”
For
the sake of transparency, the PMC with the appeasement of all provinces has
reviewed and selected topics are included from FSc for National MDCAT. So, dear
students who are anxious about the syllabus of the National MDCAT, please don’t be.
Just go through properly and prepare MDCAT from your FSc textbooks, no matter
what province or region you’re from in Pakistan.
No
student in Pakistan needs to study beyond their FSc syllabus to appear in
MDCAT.
