What is Kangaroo Mathematics Test?
Kangaroos are the most efficient
runner’s in the world and international Kangaroo Mathematics competitions also
aim to make you the most efficient mathematician in the world. The idea of Kangaroo Mathematics test started
from Australia which later was adopted by the Math enthusiastic teachers of
France. From France, it spread globally
and many countries joined in after observing the accomplishment of tests. IKMC
is the largest competition for school students in the world, with over 6
million participants from 77 countries.
The association Kangourou sans Frontières,
KSF founded in 1995 is an international association founded in France that
designs and conducts the annual Kangaroo tests on an international level. Some
of IKMC member countries are France, America, Canada, UK, Turkey, UAE, China,
Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Belarus, Hungary, The Netherlands, Italy, Finland, Switzerland,
Russia, Spain, Sweden, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Pakistan, Denmark and
many others.
Who make IKMC tests?
The competition questions are
selected by International Committee that is composed by KSF members and include
representatives from all participating countries. The representatives meet at
an annual conference each fall, every year in a different country but the
papers are checked nationally.
IKMC is a multiple choice question MCQs
formatted test from grade 1- to grade 12. The test is not mainly from the
textbooks but comprises the mathematical questions to check the analytical reasoning
skills of participants as per their age group. There are patterns, sequences,
graphs, pictorial illustrations and the mathematical questions that encourage
the students to think critically, analyze the given problem, breaking it into
parts, decision making, and reaching the right choice within a given time. There is difficulty level in each IKMC
test. Calculators are not allowed in IKMC. The IKMC papers are checked, and marked nationally. Students are also
awarded with cash prizes, and certificates.
The challenge runs for 50 up to 75 minutes. It consists of 24 up to 30
problems. The sections for 3 point-, 4 point-, and 5 point-problems are equally
divided and numbers are distributed as per difficulty level. There is a
negative marking for an incorrect answer and no marks are deducted for skipping
a question.
All schools and colleges are
welcomed to host IKMC by registering their students in IKMC. The registration
fee of IKMC is varied in each country and taken in local currency. IKMC
registration fee ranges $4-$5.
All students from class 1 -12 are
invited to participate in IKMC.
The IKMC are held in all
participating institutions all over the country at the same time.
All public and private schools and
colleges in Pakistan are welcome to host IKMC by registering their students in
the Contest.
IKMC are held in the institution
under the supervision of Principals.
At each level of participation the
first prize is awarded at the country level to the students who earn the
largest sum of points at their level. Likewise the first prize at district and
school levels is also awarded. In addition several other prizes are awarded at
each level of participation.
All participating students receive a
certificate.

for jobs, scholarships and entrance levels of universities. A student must
understand and know to solve the mathematical problems using their analytical
