CHILDREN DAY IN PAKISTAN

CHILDREN’S DAY ACTIVITIES, SPEECH, IMPORTANCE PAKISTAN

Children day is celebrated on 20th November each year including Pakistan. The purpose of observance of children day is to promote the awareness among masses for the welfare and rights of children. The children day is celebrated on 20th November as on the same date; in 1959 United Nations General assembly passed the declaration of the rights of the child. Also on the same date in 1989 UN General Assembly passed the convection on the rights of the child.

Since 1990, World’s children day is observed on 20th November because of two UN General Assembly adopted declarations. The children are the fundamental part of any society and the foundation of future of any nation. A civilized nation always has concerns on the issues that can affect any child’s right to grow and learn. It is the responsibility of the government and the civil society to provide the basic facilities to every child. An access to basic education, hospital, nutritious food, and healthy environment is a right of every child. In developing countries like Pakistan where many children are deprived of clean water, nutritious food and education, the importance of children day is more than any developed country. The purpose of celebrating the children’s day is to advocate the children’s rights in a better way. Children mean the individuals less than of age of 15 years in Pakistan. There are around 80 million or 8 crore children in Pakistan. Children are around 35% of population in Pakistan. Unfortunately children in Pakistan face many challenges in their childhood including physical, physiological and sexual abuse at homes and in society. Many children are forced to work at early ages. Forced early age marriages are also a big problem in Pakistan. Gender discrimination and biased thinking is also a problem for children in Pakistan. These all problems should be highlighted and more laws should be made to safeguard the children on children’s day.

In many schools, many activities are organized to aware the children about their rights.

Some of the activities on children’s day in schools are:

  • Organization of functions, and stage performances
  • Theme parties like fruit party, vegetable party
  • A day outside school playground where children enjoy picnic and fun activities

  • Students are asked to prepare speeches on children’s rights
  • Sessions from professional psychiatrist t in accordance to discuss the problems faced by young kids and how to tackle with them.

  • Sessions for teenage students to discuss their stress and problems
  • Parent teacher association conference on providing better environment for students
  •  School fundraising activities, children are encouraged to donate for the poor children of the society.

As a society:

  • One person can take the responsibility of paying school fee of one poor child.

In short, children day observance should be more than arranging school activities and functions. There are children in the society who are not a part of these schools and spend the children day fighting against hunger, illness and poverty. As a society we have to take every child on the stage where he/she can perform the best of his/her capabilities.  It is children right to save them from discriminatory issues. For example parents should be told not to follow gender based discrimination at homes and in families such as boys shouldn’t be given more preference on girls while providing the education, health and food.  There should not be discrimination on the race, religion or color of a child.

A happy healthy and secure childhood is a right of every child should be theme of children day in Pakistan.
