WHY TEENAGE GIRLS AT CO-EDUCATION FEEL BAD?Islamic countries & coeducation for girls-FUSION STORIES

‘I don’t want to continue in damn co-education (mix sex) school anymore. Get me admitted in all girls’ campus,’ Alina ups and down her bag on the floor and yelled loudly on her mother. She was behaving weird for many days. More sleep, less eating, shouting and complain of constant headache; it’s been her personality statement since she turns up to a secondary level. She looked up, her history project lying on the floor and her mind again trolled her back to her classroom.

#BULLYING FROM BOYS HIT WORST

‘Here comes the granny monster. Please all guys behave otherwise she will swallow us,’ Bisam never forgets to bully her in the morning following the cackles of other classmates. She just hates this title anymore.  Many girls face the same situation at boys end and like her, most of them retaliate upset.
A day before Umer pushed her to grab a front bench for him in the computer lab and it was so sudden that she couldn't retaliate. She was already upset.
TEENAGE GIRLS AND CO EDUCATION

‘Shut up, just put your foot in your mouth. Don't think me like other girls,’ she went straight to Bisam and pinched her nails into his arm.
‘Oh, its softening...no its achingaaayou’re too close. You’re smelling…,’
‘Get away from me,’ he pushed her back forcefully that she hit the chair at side.
‘Look she is angry. Granny, grannya dark granny… fast and furious granny...monster granny,’ Bisam took out body spray from his bag and sprayed strong on the air. Alina felt a deep insult and a severe jerk of headache.

# SPECIAL APPEARANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF FEW GIRLS AMONG BOYS

‘Oh, I forget to finish my history project. Someone would help me?,’ Hiba’s soft voice cut up the mocking. Hiba was a fair colored and smart class fellow of her.
‘Here you take madam,’ Bisam presented his folder to Hiba.
‘But please don’t let it copy to dark granny. She would steal my points,’ he rubbed his arm and smiled. He looked at her swallowing the pain killer and putting her water bottle on one side.

# ALL TIME THINKING OF PLANS TO DEAL WITH MALE CLASS FELLOWS

‘It's your overreacted annoyance that bothered the boys. Look at me, I don’t talk to any of them and most of the time keeps quiet,’ an under confident girl sat at the back benches advised her.
‘Not at all, this is not the solution. I just take boys as friends like I do with girls. I enjoy their company, that’s why…,’
‘That’s why they call you 'gypsy'. We live in an Islamic society, so girls in co-education should keep the necessary distance from the opposite gender and above all you should all wear hijab,’ another girl with scarf showed her sympathy towards her. In  their own way, they all were trying to deal with the pressure of being with the boys.
‘Shut up you all. I think we all come here to study not to learn; how to deal with the opposite gender,’ It was odd that even now she was having problems to mingle with girls of her class.

#AFFECTATION TOWARDS MALE TEACHERS AND SENIOR SCHOOL MATES

That tension ended as soon as Sir Nabeel entered the class. He was a young guy with handsome personality. Alina always felt affectation towards him. She set her flick and sash intentionally before taking out the notebook. No, he's a teacher... I should focus on studies...I'm too young... What so... She hardly started to take her notes.

# MIND MESSING UP WITH RELATIONSHIP AND BREAK UP STORIES

'You know that handsome senior school guy broke up his relationship at last. I'm so excited to console him,' her friend suddenly murmured.
'What! How come! They had great bonding,'
'I damn care, but think there is a vacancy now... and let me tell you this Alina, Bisam relationship is also about to crush,' she pointed towards another corner of the class.
'But...,'

Along with studies girls feel stressed  while dealing  attraction towards opposite gender and their mind constantly mess up with bittersweet break up and relationship stories. This situation was maddening her now.

#MORE CONSCIOUS ABOUT LOOKS THAN OF GRADES

It was not like that Alina was the new girl to coeducation or shuffling dumps her with new classmates. She has been part of this system since kindergarten and was jumping to higher classes with same faces but there must be change somewhere. There was a change in her feelings; a desire to be admired by the opposite gender; a desire to maintain higher grades along with attractive looks.
Elementary school bullying of boys don’t only irritates, but really hurts her. She knew that with her average looks, tan color and curly hairs; she can never be in the good books of any boy, but at sides she doesn’t want to be in their good books.

‘No, I can’t do this till I’m in coeducation. I feel unease and constrained over there,’ she cried to her mother again, who was busy working on her laptop. Alina’s mother was a successful working lady, working at the executive position at multinational. She hardly gets time to listen at her.

#MOSTLY RENOWNED PRIVATE SCHOOLS OFFER ONLY CO-ED SYSTEM OF EDUCATION

‘You know the girls' campus of this school is too far. It’ll be a hassle to pick and drop you and your brother separate.  You should be mature enough to deal with your problems. I wish if I would study at coeducation then I might not face lots of problems working in my office. Males always want to suppress and degrade you at every level. I just want you to know, how making your way through male dominating society. I’m planning to send you abroad for higher studies after O levels and you’re turning up just here. You should start taking hijab just like me. You’ll feel more comfortable and secure,’ like always her mother didn’t understand her but make her clear; what she thinks of her future.

#CONFUSION AMONG RELIGIOUS VALUES AND MODERNISM FOR TEENAGE FEMALE STUDENTS

‘Cover your body, cover your head, and don’t talk to boys straight. Don’t mess with them. How can you avoid this all when you daily have to face each for at least 6 hours a day? The barriers of society  stressed the girls at coeducation. They feel clung among the feelings of doing something wrong, something against their religious values and feelings of being confident, modern girls of the time.

#FEAR TO GET UNVEILED WHEN NOT FEELING WELL

Most of the girls feel bad, constrained and distracted while studying or enjoying at recess in the presence of boys. Most of the time girls feel judged and scrolling eyes on them. Specially they feel timid, upset or even unveiled at times when they are not feeling well. It affects their grades too.

#HIJAB IS NOT THE ONLY SOLUTION

Practicing Hijab gives you the secure feeling and honor, but sometimes it is failed to conceal the thoughts and inclination towards the opposite gender. I daily saw many girls mingling with boys and hijab at the same time at co-ed school, so please don't get 100% sure that your girl leaving with scarf is safe at her own disturbing feelings.

#ALL GIRLS CAMPUS SEEM MORE COMFORTABLE THAN CO-ED AT SECONDARY LEVEL

Co education should be banned at least at secondary level or at least there should be segregated sections for both genders at the same campus in Islamic countries. I want to be at all girls’ campus like Areebah. I want to sing, dance, play and studies relax just like her. She is really enjoying her teenage as a student,’ she continued her argument mentioning her cousin, who was at all girls’ campus. The girls who have experience of studying at both types of system(mix sex or single sex schools) can clearly spot the more free feelings of enjoying at all girls campus.'

# STRUGGLING AGAINST GENDER STEREOTYPE THOUGHTS

‘Simply drama to swathe her near to the ground grades in exams!.
She wants to study computer instead of science, which is totally a boy's subject.  Most of goof girls like her have chosen business to mess our class. Girls should go with Arts, Literature or Biology etc...,'
'At least at all girls campus, anyone can choose any subject without being victim of stereotypes. Computer labs are full with girls, but no one abuse them for their selection and you mom...the problem of dealing the chavernism of men continues the whole life, regardless you study in the co- ed or at seperate sex school then, why there is a need to let your early teen girl struggle in the pond of confusion and sexual discomfort,' she argued again.

'She has problems dealing with the people around. You should be thankful to be a part of best private school of country,’ her elder brother threw banana peel towards her.

#NEED OF PSYCHIATRIST

‘How dare you?’ she jumped on him violently and scratched his face.
‘I should take her appointment from any psychiatrist,’ her mother seriously noted the situating.
It was not a big deal. Many of her class fellows already had such appointments. Surely there would be girls who may not give importance to any of the above problems, but you can't say that they don't get through any of these more often.

#END NOTE

‘I had to continue in co education as my parents wanted to raise me as a strong and confident woman in future. With times I learnt to compose myself as I had no choice. I went abroad for higher studies. I did job in many places but at every place I had to meet a different situation and different problems regarding working with the opposite gender. Every time, at every age I faced new problems and I learnt a new lesson.

YES, teenage girls really feel bad and constrained at co education system of education. The most appealing theory of attaining more self confidence in Co education didn’t work for me at least. I could never break up the gender stereotype. I know every girl at coeducation daily wishes at least once to shift to a single sex school.
For me,at last I joined all girls college as the head of department in UAE and felt as felt relax as a free bird. While my cousin Areeba also excelled to great position at her field. Yes, she had problems in start to deal with male chauvinism, but it took only a few days to deal with them. I always felt her luck that she enjoyed her teenage without suffering at co education.
