Chinese Chicken Wontons recipe in Pakistani & Indian style


Wontons are a type of Chinese dumplings, use as an  appetizer before Chinese meals. Chinese wontons are more liked with Chinese wonton soup.
 A cold foggy night and a hot bowl of Chinese wonton soup with floating yellow and crispy dumplings is a best cozy combination. Wontons are made with a  variety of fillings like meat and vegetables with a variety of flavors all over the world. In actual Chinese recipe, wonton are boiled and served directly but in Pakistan and India, steamed or fried wontons are liked most. Like roll and samosa Patti, wonton wrappers are also available in superstores. 

Here we’ll tell you the Chinese Chicken wonton recipe with wonton soup and wait…we’re not going to get wonton wrappers from the market but we’ll make it for you to enhance your adventure of making your first wontons.

Ingredients:


For Dough

        All-purpose Flour                             2 cup
        Oil                                                 Tbtb spoon
        Salt                                               to taste
                         
        Water                                            1 cup
        Egg                                                   1


For Chinese chicken wonton filling:


Chicken mince/beef or mutton mince/fish   
                                250 gm

Green Onion chopped                                            1

Ginger
                                  1
Salt                                                              1 tb spoon

White pepper                                                 ¼ tb spoon

Black pepper                                           ¼ tb spoon

WhiteVinegar                                                    1 tbspoon

Soyasauce                                                        1 tb spoon

Green chilies (chopped)                                              3-4

Sesame oil (optional)                                    1 tb spoon

Fresh green Coriander

How to make wonton wrappers for chicken wontons

The dough for the wontons is very much same to the dough of bread. First take flour in a bowl. Add egg, salt, in it and twist it until the smooth dough is ready.
Let the dough to set for 20 minutes and twist it again to make perfect dough.
Divide the dough into four equal portions. Take one portion from dough and flat it with a rolling pin. You’ll get big circular bread.
Now take a knife and cut edges of circle that it becomes a big square.
Next you cut the big square into four equal squares.
From here, you get four wonton wrappers. Repeat the process and make wonton wrappers with all dough.

If you want a bigger wonton then simply take a smaller portion of dough and leave with one big square instead of dividing it into four small squares. For me I always take bigger portion and make 4 wonton wrappers of 4 cm each side mostly.

How to make filling of wonton:

Add chicken mince, ginger, green onion, salt, pepper and a little water and mix it well that it comes to liquid paste. Add green coriander, sesame oil and shrimps at end and mix it well. Wonton filling is ready. In Chinese traditional style, this uncooked and sticky like filling will go to wonton wrappers and get boiled or fried. 

Next beat one egg in a bowl.

Now take one wonton wrapper and put it on your palm in hand and brush it with beaten egg on all sides to give it tight binding. You can also do it with wet hands.

Now fill in the filling and fold the cover just in a shape of wonton.

1.   First take opposite corners to fix attach and to get perfect wonton shape.
2.  Fold the rectangle from middle and then fold again to get perfect wonton shape.
A perfect Chinese Wonton shape requires a practice but it’s a technical use of thumb and palm which let you make a perfect wonton shape.
Like same, fill in all coverings and put wontons in one tray.



Tip: It is good to make wontons in number and put them to freeze.


  • One traditional Chinese style to cook dumplings is to boil them. Let 1 litre of water in a big pan and let it to boil. Put dumplings in boiling water and take it out when Wonton is boiled properly. It’ll look semi-transparent when boiled properly. Don’t overcook the wontons.

Wonton soup recipe

It’s cold and you’re looking for wonton soup then here is the recipe;

Chicken stalk       4 cups
(Take boney pieces of chicken and let it boil with 4 glasses of water, salt and cinnamon for at least 30 minutes. Chicken stalk is ready)
Black pepper        ½ tb spoon
Salt                         1/4 tbspoon
Soy sauce
Chilli sauce
Boil the chicken stalk and add wontons in it. Let wontons boil for 3-4 minutes and add one egg and corn flour at end.
Delicious Chinese chicken wonton soup is ready. Serve it with shrimps and Enjoy it.

Difference of Wonton & dumplings

Wontons are a kind of dumplings but with less ingredients. Traditional Chinese wontons are filled with chopped green onion, chopped ginger and chopped shrimps only when Dumplings come with a variety of meat and herb fillings.
