POLICY GUIDELINES FOR ENGLISH PAPER CLASS 9 SSC I with Paper Pattern and Distribution of Marks

English SSC-I

The question paper is ordered into following three sections: "Section A, B & C".

Questions may be put based or derived/unseen manner but difficulty level will be same

as per the lessons taught in the course. Distribution of the questions will be with respect to cognitive

domain. Within each section shall weightage will be roughly be 30 percent Knowledge (K), 50 percent

Understanding (U), and 20 percent Application (A).

 

SECTION — A

This section will have of question number one with 15 compulsory structured part questions. It’ll be

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of one mark each. These MCQs shall  be able to check comprehension of lessons, vocabulary and grammar. The question will be with rough proportions of 30 percent 20 percent and 50 percent of questions, respectively.

 Following topics shall be covered in grammar of English paper class 9:

i. Articles

ii. Parts of speech (types and subtypes)

iii. Noun, Pronoun, Verb, Preposition, Conjunction,

iv. Interjection Sentence, Clause, Phrase (identification only)

v. Kinds of sentences (Manner Based i.e. Assertive/Declarative, Optatives,

Interrogative & Imperative)

vi. Conditional Sentences

vii. Verbals i.e. Gerund, Infinitive & Participles

 Fbise will use OMR or bubble sheet for objective paper.

SECTION — B (40 marks)

This section consists of three compulsory of varied distribution of marks as detailed below:

Q.2  This question shall consist of nine part questions.

Students are required to attempt six out of these nine parts questions.

Here three questions will be seen whereas six questions shall be

Unseen. Total marks of this question will be 18. Each part will carry 3 equal marks

 

Q.3

a. Students are required to paraphrase a given stanza from poem. This part will carry 3 marks.

b. Students are required to answer preferably three questions based on the given Stanza. Any type of questions may be asked about theme, metaphors or what poet wants to say here. This part will carry 6 marks: 2 marks for each question.

 

Q.4

a. This part of question 4 shall preferably consist of seven sentences.

Students are required to change voice/tense/manner of any FIVE sentences

from amongst the given seven sentences. This part will carry 5 marks.

b. This part of question 4 shall preferably consist of eight sentences.

Students are required to use correct form of verb to complete any FIVE from amongst the given eight sentences. The question will weight 5 marks

c. This part question shall consist of a sentence or a paragraph with preferably six Punctuation marks. This part will have 3 marks.

SECTION — C (20 marks)

Q.5 Students need to compose and write an informal letter from

given choice of two letters. Letter may be of any topic. It may be seen or unseen. The question of letter will carry 8 marks.

The format of letter and marks distribution will be as follows:

Date (0.5 marks)

Body of the letter (5 marks)

i. Opening (1-2 Sentences)

ii. Objective letter writing (3-6 Sentences)

iii. Conclusion/closing (1-2 Sentences)

 

Yours sincerely (0.5 marks)

X.Y.Z. (0.5 marks)

 

Note: Students should be aware that Marks for the salutation(s) SHALL ONLY BE AWARDED if the body of the letter is written properly irrespective of its level of accuracy/correctness.

Q.6. Students are required to write a paragraph of about 70 to 80 words in

length on any one of the two given topic. This question carries 6 Marks

Q.7 Students are required to translate Urdu sentences into English. Students are required to do any six from amongst nine given sentences into English

OR

Write a dialogue on a given topic.

Note: There should be at least four sets of conversation relevant to topic other than the opening and closing. This question will carry 6 Marks
