 First War of Independence 1857 Against offensive rule of East India Company, local Indians stood against British under leadership of Mughal King Bahadur Shah II.  The war started from rebellion in Meerut Garrison when Indian sepoys refused to use enfield rifles accused of manufacturing with haraam animal fat. The rebellion was joined by other locals frustrated of doctrine of Lapse and harsh taxes. The resonance of great Mughal empire pulled the freedom fighters from all native religions towards Red Fort to seek the backing of Bahadur Shah Zafar.
